This year was the first time Kendall and I had the opportunity to attend the Las Vegas Furniture Market, and we were inspired by what we saw. A move toward the simple, natural, and raw seemed to be a recurring trend in every showroom we entered. It is a return to nature and the exquisite beauty of the world around us.
Natural – Everywhere we looked we saw items that invoked a feeling of found and collected treasures. Geodes, crystals, antlers, and barnacles add so much color and texture to any room with any style. Grouped together on a table or put into shadow boxes on the wall, these items can be used in a wide variety of ways and in a wide variety of styles.
Industrial – Hand-mad, or re-purposed items took center stage in the casual and modern spaces. Blown glass light fixtures were prominent examples of this, and they were everywhere. We also saw many furniture items that used live edge wood, metal and leather.
Animals- Animals in art was another recurring trend we saw, and this further heightens the natural theme. From handmade artwork and collages to prints and paintings, it seemed like animals were the star of the show. Sometimes elegant, sometimes emotional, these displays always drew our attention.
Gold- From furniture to art and accessories we saw touches of gold everywhere ranging from gilt, gold leaf, rose-gold, and even copper. Look for it in small decorative accessories, lighting, mirrors, and chests. Using a pop of gold with either natural or industrial pieces adds an unexpected and exciting twist!
