PAPER 2: A Collector Series

selection of pieces from PAPER 2

Gallery Shoal Creek is currently hosting a show that no one should miss. You can see it from now until October 2 and is titled PAPER 2. The gallery features the art of one of PPDS’ favorites, Leonard Lehrer, as well as pieces from Melissa Jay Craig, Catherine Dudley, Karen Kunc, and Francesca Samsel.

“PAPER 2 explores the creative process of five artists whose work incorporates printmaking, collage, and sculptural works of hand-made paper. The artists represent a continuum of personal and artistic experiences. Yet, all share a devotion to the medium of paper, a strong foundation in printmaking, and a sense of discovery inherent to the multi-staged creative process each pursues.” -Gallery Shoal Creek

Leonard Lehrer - "Barcarole"

Lehrer’s Artists statement says it all:

“My work has seen a lengthy cyclical evolution of ideas and intent, from Bonnard-like summer afternoons in the garden to the clustering of many thoughts and experience into a variety of mediums, including my most recent journey into the world of high tech processes. Among the forces directly impacting my work are the paintings of Pontormo, the gardens and domed ceilings of the Alhambra, the movie “Last Year at Marienbad, and the writings of Jorges Luis Borges; the simultaneity of experience, i.e., that past, present and future all exist at the same moment – at this very moment – is at the very core of my understanding. Through my images I try to comprehend the very nature of my experience. I attempt to address the magic of the arts, the unexpected, the sense of discovery that the adventure of my life has provided for me. From the wonderment of the paradise garden to efforts in addressing great loss, I find that the arts embrace everything. It is pure privilege to be part of this most remarkable language system.”  -Leonard Lehrer

Join us at An Evening with the ArtistsFriday, September 17 from 6 – 8 pm to celebrate each of these artists’ collections.
