Antiquing in Round Top

I’m sure you are wondering where the PPDS team goes to purchase our most interesting furniture and accessories. Who would have thought that this tiny Texas town could host a world-class Antique Market?

Thousands of vendors come from all over the world to sell their wares ranging from French Antiques to reclaimed wood tables. All are on a twenty-five mile stretch of rural highway. This event happens twice a year in the spring and fall. Round Top’s population of 77 is overrun with buyers clogging up their two lane thoroughfare. This is the road between Austin to Houston via La Grange.

If you attend, you will find a collection of vintage prom dresses, cowboy hats and boots, African beads, fine art and ocean novelties. I like to say, “everything from trash to treasures.” There are the day-trippers who come up with their trailers hitched to their cars to haul purchases home. Then there are the hard-core people who stay the whole week. This is a challenge because there are very few bed and breakfast accommodations. Some people camp out or stay in trailers. The atmosphere is part commerce and part carnival. As you drive down the road you will see many major shopping areas – Marburger Farms, Zapp Hall, The Arbors and Blue Hills.

Bring the family, your dog and especially your stamina because you are going to need it walking miles of visual delight. It is definitely a stimulus overload. I wouldn’t miss it for anything!
